Backyard Landscape Design Trends
Simply having a backyard is no longer the dream; today’s homeowners want to create their own personal backyard paradise.
For some, they envision a lovely garden with a quiet sitting area. For others it’s a full-blown resort-style vacation experience, complete with pool, outdoor kitchen and large living and dining areas. Others prefer a naturalized, eco-friendly area, perhaps with a vegetable garden or custom-built pergola.
One of the biggest trends we’re seeing today are extensions of the home’s kitchen and living spaces. More and more clients are requesting elements for their outdoor spaces that are traditionally found in interior living areas. The top three requests are:
Outdoor Fireplaces
Either gas or wood-burning, a fireplace is a great addition to any backyard. The warmth helps extend the use of your outdoor space in the shoulder seasons and can take the chill off any cooler nights in the summer.
Outdoor Kitchens
Many of our clients love the idea of having a fully operational kitchen in the backyard. It makes entertaining a breeze, allowing the host to stay outside in the middle of the action and not be hidden away in the house, cooking.
Outdoor pizza ovens are also becoming very popular. These run at a really high heat so are perfect for the outdoor environment. It’s a guaranteed crowd-pleaser too.
Stylish furniture
Gone are the days when plastic, fold-up furniture was good enough for the backyard. Outdoor furniture that is comfortable, well designed and stylish has become a must in any landscaping project.
Choose from sleek, modern furnishings reminiscent of chic ocean-side hotels in Miami or more tailored and slightly formal French-inspired styles. Go for wicker and brighter fabrics to reflect a laid-back, Caribbean vibe or choose a beautiful wood like teak for that crisp, New England regatta feel.
The beauty of design – for both the indoors and out – is that there are so many directions you can take. For more ideas, visit www.denbok.com for more information or call us at 905-336-3476.
